GEM Pawnbrokers was established in 1947 by the late Martin Kaminsky and has steadily grown into the largest pawnbroker in the New York City area with twenty-four branches. The high volume of loans that GEM writes makes it one of the largest privately held chains in the nation, as well as one of the largest in the world.

Gem Financial Services, Inc. was established in 1975, by Martin’s son Mitchell, as a spin-off of the successful pawn business. Today, GEM is an industry leader in financial solutions for the pawn industry, offering a variety of financing programs to match any pawnbroker’s business model.

To this day, GEM remains a family owned and operated business. Rachel Wilen, Martin’s granddaughter, has assumed the day to day operations as President. Ryan Kaminsky and Michael Kaminsky, Mitchell’s sons, currently serve on the board of directors. 

For over seventy years, GEM has been serving the New York metropolitan area with the best in financial services, and currently employs over 130 people. Our name stands for integrity, stability, quality and above all, excellence in service.
